For two days running Wednesday 24th through Thursday 25th June 2020, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council said Bournemouth Beach was “stretched to the absolute hilt” in a two day of a UK heatwave. The fear of COVID 19 did not deter sun seekers and Beach fun lovers troop –into Bournemouth from all distance to catch some fun. Traffic built up early on coast-bound roads – including Durdle Door – and people travelled to Bournemouth from as far as Birmingham.
By Thursday evening the Sandbanks peninsula was “heavily congested”, the council said, repeating its warning for people to “please stay away”.
