The users of the movie streaming platform, Netflix reacts and call for a boycott to #CancelNetflix after the release of a new French movie “Cuties’ on the platform that portray preteen girls in an awful sexual way.
The movie was released on Wednesday, September 9 and individuals have been expressing their dislike for the movie on Twitter as an inappropriate narrative of children. The movie “Cuties” is a chronicle of Amy, an 11 year old girl that rebel against her conservative Muslim family background to be part of a dance group.
Explaining the underling meaning of the movie, the director, the Cuties story was birthed from a real life occurrence after she witnessed a dance troupe of preteen girls that imitate the dance routines of adult dancers.
She noted that, “Our girls see that the more a woman is overly sexualized on social media, the more she is successful. And the children just imitate what they see, trying to achieve the same result without understanding the meaning. And yeah, it’s dangerous.”
And film critics have sided Doucouré stating they understand the narrative and the direction of the movie as “a thoughtful look into the intricacies of girlhood in the modern age, Cuties is a coming-of-age film that confronts its themes with poignancy and nuance.”
Despite the explanation from Doucouré and film critics, the viewers and subscribers of Netflix vehemently against the movie. Below are some of the comments and reactions from Twitter:
“I don’t need to watch Netflix’s ‘Cuties’ to know that they are promoting pedophilia. The trailer was enough! #CancelNetflix”
“Netflix is comfortable with this. Plenty of people will defend it. This is where our culture is at.”
If you watch 11 year olds twerk, you’re a creep. If you taught 11 year olds to touch themselves on camera, you’re abominable. If you defend Netflix airing this child porn, you’re enabling abuse. #CancelNetflix
